Inmesol introduces the new digital speed controller which is installed as standard in gen sets for parallel applications and as an additional option for other uses in Volvo and Kohler engines with a standard mechanical speed governor.
The main advantages of a digital electronic controller enable for:
- The command and control to be performed through CANBUS
- The communication with the control unit of the generator set to be more comprehensive and reliable.
- The synchronisation of the gen sets in parallel applications is much more accurate. The settings are easily saved and are used for adding new gen sets when a higher power installation is required.
The HT-SG200 series engine electronic speed controller consists of a digital control unit, a pick up and an actuator, recently developed but fully compatible with the previous analogue series. This means that these components can be exchanged with the components belonging to gen sets manufactured earlier.

The processing power of the digital controllers not only provides configuration flexibility, but also enables the exchange of CAN J1939 data with many modern controllers. The unit displays the RPM value on the 4-digit LED screen and will also send it as a standard J1939 value to a connected controller.
Using the J1939 SpeedUp / SpeedDown standard commands and through the connection of the canbus, as well as through a conventional 0-10V synchronisation and load sharing signal input, the desired speed can be established, an optimum feature in parallel applications.
In turn, this J1939 integration simplifies wiring, saving on installation time, and also facilitates the implementation of more sophisticated controller features.
Another major difference with the previous analogue controller is that, now through the software supplied with the PC, a general description of all configurations is obtained, and facilitates an easy to use fine adjustment of the main PID loop, even with the engine running, while allowing access to secondary parameters, including a second PID loop.
The final configuration can be stored and downloaded to other units for multiple engine applications or for serial production. This is a great advantage for parallel gen sets where configuration and identical behaviour between equipment is essential.
A very useful feature is the possibility of programming two different speeds (for example, 1,500 RPM and 1,800 RPM for 50 and 60 HZ) that can be easily changed by means of a digital input, without the need to add external potentiometers or other devices.
Another very useful feature is the use of the software to register the performance of engines during a commissioning or the reaction of the engine in a staggered load.
Finally, it is important to underline that the new controller offers an excellent performance, many technical advantages, ease of installation and configuration, all of which come at the same price as the previous option.
